Reed's Training

This is Reed's fifth week away from home and his fourth week of marine bootcamp training. This week he is learning unarmed manipulations, which means he learns to take control of an opponent using pressure points and joint manipulations. Yikes! His platoon also began swim week today. Since the marine corps is an "amphibious assault force," every marine must know how to survive in water. After he finishes water survival training on Friday he will take a test to earn his tan belt, which is the first of five tests on his way to a black belt in martial arts. In his letters Reed has said he is really excited about learning martial arts, and he also said that his muscles haven't gotten any bigger yet but you can see the veins in his arms! Ha!

Graduation Day!

Kendall graduated Saturday morning along with 418 other seniors from Madison Central at the coliseum in Jackson. We estimated there were probably four to 5,000 people there to see the ceremony. Kendall is Destin bound for a week with a stop off in Orange Beach to see Taylor Swift tonight in concert. Congratulations to our little KK. We are so proud of you!!

Big accomplishment...

I have to send a shout out to my sweet husband who has accomplished something pretty big. Last year on Memorial Day Danny decided he wanted to read the Bible over the next year. He followed a daily Bilble reading plan from our church and this weekend, one year later on Memorial Day, he finished reading the entire Bible. The entire Bible! It takes a lot of discipline to read scripture and be in prayer every day. Pretty impressive...

Dixie loves ice cream

Dixie doesn't get to have people food very often but Danny lets her have ice cream every now and then and she loves it!

Kendall Graduates!

Kendall is graduating this Saturday from Madison Central. This pic was taken on senior day. Congrats Kendall on your cheer scholarship to MSU!

Kendall is now a Cheerleader at MSU!

Kendall's competitive cheer squad went to the national championships and then the world championships in Orlando this year. This is Kendall and Danny at a performance for the parents where she got a scholarship for her years at CMC.

This is Kendall and her best friend Liz. They both made the co-ed cheer squad at Mississippi State and will be cheering at football games this fall!

Update on Reed

Reed is in his third week of Marine bootcamp. Only 10 more weeks to go before he finishes and we get to see him on family day at his graduation. So far, we haven't been able to speak to him on the phone and our only correspondence is through letters. In this day and age of e-mail, blogging and texting we'd almost forgotten how to write real live letters. Danny and I are so proud of his courage, determination and the strength he has shown. He is leading a Bible study for his group and during his one and only hour a day of free time he is reading his Bible and writing letters to his family. He sent me a homemade happy mother's day card and I couldn't have been more touched by any gift. We are looking forward to our trip in July to Parris Island, South Carolina, to see our Marine!
